Maintaining your parquet flooring the right way
Maintenance is a key factor when it comes to creating a sustainable interior design. This is especially true with regards to your flooring. Nowadays, the parquet flooring is widely used, the reasons for that are more than obvious – it is affordable, easy to clean and maintain and it comes in so many colors that you will definitely find the right one for your home. When it comes to cleaning and maintaining your flooring, there are a few things to bear in mind.
Wax is widely used to fix minor imperfections or indented areas in your parquet flooring. You should by all means use wax of the proper color, so that the repaired part would not stand out. Clean the spot carefully with a piece of sandpaper then apply the wax and after that paint the spot using parquet processing paint.
The really tricky part is when a larger area of the parquet flooring needs to be repaired. There are two possible lines of action here. Provided that the damaged area is not so big, you can try removing the upper layer of the parquet using a carpenter’s chisel. Of course, you do need to have some parquet pieces left, so that you can carve a top-layer part of approximately the same size. You need to then glue it and apply some wax around the corners.
If, after all you do need to replace a whole piece of parquet, use an appropriate milling tool. Cut the piece along the edges. After you have removed it, make sure you clean the glue or the small particles, so that the new parquet piece can fit in perfectly. Once you have placed it correctly, apply some PVA glue and let it dry. To ensure that it has been glued firmly, you can place a heavy object on top until the glue dries out.
