Cleaning the windows in the house or apartment is a strenuous and tedious task. We all wish we had a magic want, which we could point at the windows and they would become squeaky clean. In reality, things don’t work that way. However, cleaning the windows is not that big of a deal, if you know how to do it.
Before you start cleaning the windows in your home, it’s a good idea to lay a towel on the floor to catch the dripping water. The next thing to do is dust the frames with a duster or an old cloth. After that, fill a bucket with warm water and add a small amount of detergent of your choice. First clean the frames of the windows thoroughly with a soaked sponge. Then, soak your sponge again to clean the panes.
Start cleaning the windows from the upper left corner. Drag the sponge straight down. With a squeegee, stroke downward from the top to remove the water. Move across the window with consecutive downward strokes. Then, use a dry rag to remove any excess water from the squeegee and start cleaning the next line. Do this until you reach the right side of the window. Dry the squeegee with a rag after each stroke, because it will leave visible lines on the pane. Finally, dry off the frames and the panes of your windows with a dry cloth.
Alternatively, you can use a solution of warm water and rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will effectively clean your windows. Use Isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Pour ¼ of the bottle into the water. Use lint-free paper towels or even toilet paper. Dip half of it into the bucket and wipe down the windows in straight and vertical lines. You can also use old newspaper for this step, as it will ensure the windows remain streak free. Dry the windows with another paper towel.
You can buy special window cleaning tools from your local hardware store. It is a good idea to invest in a good-quality, professional squeegee. Wash the insides of the windows first.
