If you are feeling bored and have a bunch of extra items in your home, we want to show how to make a 3D paper snowflake. It will be a beautiful wall or window decoration for the holidays. The snowflake is easy to make and fun for everyone.
The materials you will need for the snowflake are 6 pieces of white copy paper, scissors, clear tape and a stapler. Start by folding each of the 6 papers in half, diagonally. If the paper you are using does not form a perfect triangle, cut off the rectangular edge that sticks out, to make it align perfectly. Fold the triangle in half, noting where the folded “bottom” of the triangle is. Next, cut three lines in the triangle. The scissors must be positioned along the bottom fold, parallel to one of the edges, going up to the top. Your cuts should be diagonal. Cut most of the way up to one of the side edges, but not entirely. Try to keep the same distance between each cut.
Unfold the triangle and turn it, so that one of the points of the square faces you. As you keep your paper diamond side-up, roll the first two, innermost paper points together to form a tube and tape them together. You should see triangular shapes on each side of the roll. Flip the diamond over to the other side and take the next two paper points. Pull them together on the opposite side of the tube and tape them, as you did before. Keep flipping the paper and joining the paper points together on opposite sides the same way, until all paper point have been joined.
Do this with all 6 pieces of paper. Then, join the tops of three of the completed rolled pieces at one end and staple them together. Join the other three pieces the same way. Now you should have two joined pieces, consisting of three arms each. Staple them point to point. Then, staple the middle of the outer rolls, where each of the six arms of the snowflake meet. This ensures the snowflake is pulled into place.
Enjoy creating a 3D paper snowflake. Get the help of your kids and have some fun together. Add some glitter and you can use the snowflakes as a Christmas decoration or keep them for the whole winter.
